I want to buy a device—without spending a small fortune—to test an installation in a house that uses Grade 3 cable, to check if it reliably supports 10Gb/s end-to-end, confirm that all pairs are working correctly, and measure the cable length and possibly identify points of failure.
When I was working, I had access to a Fluke Networks LinkIQ testers, but I find it too expensive > (~2350€/3000€ depending on how many terminators you get for the LIQ100) for the very seldom occasional use I’ll have.
I checked with services company around me and they don’t rent the device, will charge for service which basically brings the cost in the same range (1500€ + VAT for one audit).
I have my doubts about the €50 Chinese devices and so I expect budget will be higher.
Do you have any recommendations for a reliable product?
PS: In practice, I only need to test at 2.5Gb/s if that helps reduce the price
PS2/ I could test performance up to 1 Gb/s by attaching a couple computers at both ends of a cable but that won’t tell me everything I want to know and I’ve about 60 cables to run through.
PS3: if you wonder why I need this - it’s because I’m doing a full refresh of all my networks going WiFi 7 and 2.5Gb/s at switch level / 10Gb/s interconnects. I’m replacing all the old cables in the walls with Grade 3 cable and want to test the outcome.
