It's been over a month since I had the Ethernet Shield attached. I connected it this morning, with the SD card installed. I loaded a sketch that uses static IP, logs temp to the SD, and serves up data as a web server. Everything worked perfectly. Apparently I overcame whatever issue I was having with static IPs a couple of months ago.
