exit status 1

I am a beginner to all of this arduino community. I recently bought an arduino board because I want to learn how to integrate arduino to my diy project.

I made wrote this code by myself, but this showed up
exit status 1
Error compiling for board Arduino/Genuino Uno.

I cannot figure what is wrong with my code.

And here is what I wrote:

#include <LiquidCrystal.h>

LiquidCrystal lcd(1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7);

void setup() {
lcd.begin(16, 2);
pinMode(3, INPUT);
}

void loop() {
boolean down = digitalRead(3);
while (down != 1) {
lcd.setCursor(0, 0);
lcd.print( “Ex. 9:16” );
lcd.setCursor(1, 0);
lcd.print( “But I have rais-” );
delay(1000);
}
lcd.clear();
while (down != 1) {
lcd.setCursor(0, 0);
lcd.print( “ed you up for t-” );
lcd.setCursor(1, 0);
lcd.print( “his very purpose” );
delay(1000);
}
lcd.clear();
}

Your code builds just fine on my PC. Arduino IDE v1.8.8. Win7-32 Laptop.

I suggest that you try again. e.g. restart IDE. rebuild.

If you still have a problem, restart your PC. And re-install your Arduino IDE.

Please read the Forum guidelines on posting code.
