Exit status 2 error upload

hello
i'm trying to uploaed my first sketch, with a generic 8266 iot board (which by the way works fine with the regular IDE and with blynk) and get upload error EXIT STATUS 2 - which i cant even find a referance to, and the following details -
warning: espcomm_sync failed

error: espcomm_open failed

error: espcomm_upload_mem failed

what is this ?

Can you please specify if by regular IDE you also mean the WEB IDE? Is any of the models listed when adding the device the one you are using?
