Expand analog in's?

Hi guys,

I'm using Max/Msp to receive data from the arduino board.

Is it possible to connect 8 potentiometers without using a shield?

Thanks,
João Menezes

You can multiplex the Analog In/Out with 3 dig out´s and an IC called CD4051BC i used this on other Projects not arduinos. The only thing you have to think about is the "Switch" Resitance of normally 300Ohms

Serial Multiplexer Breakout - TS3A5017 - BOB-08970 - SparkFun Electronics 16 channels $5 + shipping

its not 16 channels, its a dual 4 channel just like the 4051 (which cost like 65 cents)

Sorry, my Mac clipboard freaked out

I'll buy it.

Thanks guys

Be aware that the Sparkfun CD74HC4067 requires surface mount soldering. There are DIP mount CD74HC4067 chips, but probably not available until April from the big suppliers. The 4051 DIP chips are readily available.

The link I sent was for the chip on a breakout board, no soldering of SMD stuff required.

The comments (which may be dated) seem to indicate something different. If it is already soldered to the board, then it is a very good deal! I sent sparkfun an email to get clarification. Below is some of my previous tinkering with the 4051 chips.

The word from Sparkfun, so it is a deal!

"It's definitely soldered on there. This board comes with the CD74HC4067MUX, a 10K resistor and an 0.1uF capacitor poplulated as shown in the pics."
