Extending the Wires for Sensors

I was just wondering what is considered best practice/method for extending wires for sensors? What I have been doing is combining this wire with Female to Female jumper wires which are then connected to my sensors. I then use zip ties to secure the wires together.

This has proven to do fine for me although having all the wires is not the best solution for aesthetics.

Depending on exactly what you want to do have you considered wire-wrapping? Wire wrap - Wikipedia. The worst thing is you need a few different colors so is a bit expensive to start out but each roll will last you a long time.

Solder + heat shrink is good if you have the skills and equipment, otherwise you can twist the wires together and cover the joins with electrical tape.

For longer runs I find it neater to use telephone station wire

I would not use that method except for temporary wiring to test.

You have not given enough information to fully answer this.

What sensors? What distance?

The sensors Ive been using range from anything from air temp sensors to ultrasonic sensors to motion sensors.

The distance Ive been using is about 6 ft of wire.

I would say wires are a good alternative to radios for shorter distances.

I was not suggesting anything other than wires. Just commenting on the method. For long term use I would not be joining wires.

A better method? That would be for you to work out something that is within your skills and knowledge.
