external IP notifier

good day everyone! i am sure those of you who work with servers and internet need to know the changing external IP to do work ( provided not fixed IP) . what software or service do you guys use? i tried trueIP, Ip change informer, Ip change notifier and all failed...or at least i dont know how to set it properly...anyone here has any experience and care to share?

Well, if you are doing servers on the internet, you should be using fixed ip addresses. I would imagine if you are not paying for fixed ip addresses, your terms of service probably precludes you from running servers. Some ISPs will block popular server ports.

If you want to find what the external IP address is of your connection, you can go to the shields up section of www.grc.com, and it will tell you the name and IP address that you connected to grc.com from.

If you really must use dynamic IP's, you probably want to use DDNS (dynamic dns). One popular ddns site is Domain Name System (DNS) | Oracle (it is a commercial site). The router provided by my ISP has the ability to update dyndns.org (the free site before dyn.com bought them out) automatically when it connects, perhaps yours does to.

External IP add-on shows it automatically and continuously on the (bottom) status bar of the browser.

Interestingly, just searching for "external IP" on Google does it automatically anyway!

Mind you, I cannot recommend grc.com and Shields Up! highly enough.
