Extra jumper on my LCD display

Hello, I need to change this from 0x27 to another number. I didn't see instructions with this even though they sent 3. All 3 are 0x27. Luckily we have these instructions How to Interface Multiple I2C LCD to Arduino - Engineering Projects

But I have a mystery, there appears this thing to the left of the contrast. What is it?

Also I found some code to programmatically sent the backlit intensity and contrast, but it doesn't do anything. I assume this particular display doesn't offer that?

When present, that jumper connects the backlight's anode to Vcc, allowing the backpack to control the backlight. Remove it and the backlight will always be off.

I really want to control the backlit via a pot. That worked on my direct wire LCD display.

With this display, do I hook up a 1k pot to the two prongs?

Upon a moment's reflection, I can't see why not. You'd still have to turn it on initially via the backpack.
