Extremely poor range on esp8266 Devkitc v1

Basically title. I tried connecting to my home network and doesn't work. So I tried scanning it, and find really inconsistent detection of it. Next, I tried creating a hotspot on my laptop. The scan detected it quite consistently but holding it ~2 meters away and I started getting pretty bad inconsistency(up to -95 RS level and sometimes not detected at all).

I doubt that it's due to my environment because I had an esp32 working before. Also not the code because all code I've used are examples and I've tried examples from several sources. I am thinking it might be because of the antenna. All the esp32 and esp8266 I've seen have traces on a board sticking out on the end. I don't see anything like that on this one. The only thing that looks close to an antenna is a circle of (copper?) and a dot in the middle.
