FDX-B 134.2 kHz RFID reader

Hi All.

New to this forum and this Arduino stuff. But, I am giving it a go. I am using the same boards that @maru33 and @red_car have and I was wondering if either was able to extend the range to meet the 18cm mark it states on these antennas? The plan is to make an automated flap over the cats' automatic feeder bowls to stop them (mainly one) from eating the other one's food. Getting the height right is my first hurdle. The further away it is, the less of an obstruction. You get the idea.

The board had jumpers J3 & J5 shorted when I received it. I removed both of these and then followed the hard-to-understand instructions by shorting out J5 again and then moving across. This did not improve the distance at all so I have just left J3& J5 shorted again.

I am testing with a 12mm microchip from the local vet and also on my two cats. It seems to work better, giving me more distance around 5-7cm semi-reliably, compared to the chip from the vet between 2-4cm.

I was wondering if anyone had sorted out the distance issue with what came in the pack or did you use the same board, but make a better antenna?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
