Fiber Optic Fairy Wings

Hello everyone,
I am familiar with Arduino Uno and was hoping to apply what I know to creating some fiber optic fairy wings. I can see that Arduino LilyPad is ideal for this and I have a few questions if anyone can help out:

  • Where can one get conducting thread?
  • How can one attach fiber optic cables to the LilyPad LEDs? They look relatively flat. Attaching the cables to standard LEDs seems doable, but I'm unsure how to do it with these LEDs.
  • I'm hoping all syntax/coding for LilyPad is the same for that of Arduino Uno?
  • How does one attach a battery to LilyPad?

The expensive option is to use an optic cable coupler, but a DIY solution is to glue them together.
