Fighting with Vista

Is there a way to be able to modify files in c:\Program files\ with Vista?
It is a continuing pain in the butt to have to save elsewhere, modify, and then move over.
I went into Properties and changed admin & owner to full & modify, yet still can't edit files.

I assume you're talking about Arduino install files.

I have no trouble doing anything like this but I have the user access control crap turned off.

Are you admin or owner? Try changing the properties for all users.

I changed admin & owner to have full access for all.

Rob,
How did you turn user access control off? I'm really getting tired of double acknowledging everything I do, and not being able to do basic stuff like tweaking a file.

Does Arduino need to be c:\program files? Its not registered or anything, is it?
Can I just move the folder?

Can I just move the folder?

Possibly, I know people install it in other places. Whether you can move an installed folder I don't know. Worst case is a new install.

Yep, it's a real pain, and my PCB package can't save files with it on.

Go to Control panel > User accounts. The bottom link can be used to toggle the UAC.

No.

Can I just move the folder?

I believe so.

Off the root (C:\Arduino) is a good choice. Vista allows full access to C:\ and any folders created from there.
