How exactly does the IDE populate its list of recently used sketches?
On opening IDE 1.8.19, its list of 10 for my UNO shows five that I haven't used for at least a week. And does not include several I used yesterday. No big problem, but...

No idea, never had 1.8.19.
I use 1.8.13 & 2.1.0.
1.8.13 has it arranged as I expect.
2.1.0 I don't know as I use it only if I can't be bothered changing serial ports. 
Just looked at 2.1.0, as I would expect to.
Perhaps 1.8.19 has a bug....
