Find where an object is at on a huge graph paper.

I need to find where the object is at on a space(imagine a graph paper) Which sensor can i use to map the object location.I was thinking of using some sort of receiver and transmitter to measure the distance from all four corners. But i need a sensor which can transmit or receive in 360 degree direction like radio wave.
