Hi guys. I've been working on a project of a smart room. Using a Arduino Mega, a 20x4 LCD Diplay, with some sensors and stuff. But when I woke up today and started working on my project, I noticed that the first 8 characters of the first 2 lines aren't showing up properly. I tried using a Arduino Uno, checked all cables and connections and also tried a different code. But the problem stills there. I let this display on for like 2 or 3 days for testing, and today that showed up. I bought this display on DealExtreme for 10 bucks, 3 years ago. Maybe my display is dying? From the description alone it is evident that the HD44780U controller is defective or one or more of the traces between that blob (the biggest one) and the display is damaged.

Use a decent image host if you need help.
Not some crappy one that requires you to be logged in to view images.
Believe it or not, not every one is logged in at google.
From the pictures and the youtube link, some different problems are visible.
It's not just these first 2 rows that aren't as good as the rest of the display (the contrast setting seems to be incorrect).
You also have a power problem, as soon as you are switching on your LED strip, something usually described as weirdness (including you).
Make sure your Arduino and display get their own, stable supply, and put the LED strip on another supply.
Take your display, and turn it over.
You will see a few metal parts of the bezel protruding through the PCB.
These hold the bezel in place, putting some pressure on the glass, the rubber like "zebra" connector strips, and the PCB.
See if you can turn these metal tabs a bit (be careful), and adjust the pressure that way.
If you're lucky, you might solve the problem with the poor contrast.

What are "blobs"?
Without seeing the attachments, I couldn't see the problem.
When I saw his photos, then I could give an opinion. And I can't be certain the original attachments which can't be seen are the same as the photos in his later links.
