First Person View

Hello you all!

I want to attach a camera to a RC car I have, and stream the video to my cellphone or any other monitor, so I can feel like I was driving the car from down there.

Do you guys know any way of doing this? I mean, streaming the video from the camera to a monitor. I have lookded for some wireless cameras but I'm finding it difficult to understand how they really work and if they are applicable to this project.

Any suggetions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Lots to choose from, e.g. Baby monitors.

Analog video is the way to go.

EDIT:Second thought...with such short range, the 5.8 and 2.4Ghz systems are cheap and well within budget!

The simple long range video systems used by RC enthusiasts will suffice. The DragonLink systems are generally highly recommended...
An issue common with the transmitters is keeping them cool. Fine when in the sky and flying...but a cooling solution (fan+heatsink etc.) is recommended for ground or static use.

EDIT 2: Also, a better solution rather than increasing your Tx power is always having a better receiver gain. I guess you could easily have a flat panel Rx on a tripod next to you rather than relying on omnidirectional Rx.

Thank you for the great answers.

I'll take a look at the DragonLink systems as suggested.

I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative, as one of my golas was to develop a system as low-cost as possible, since I am planning to attach the camera to more than ten rc cars.

You'll need a system with at least ten channels or a means of switching transmitters on and off remotely.

You might look at using phones running an app that turns the phone's camera into an IP camera. The video would be broadcast via WiFi. You can get prepay phones super cheap or used phones cheap/free. They'll still work with a cracked screen or bad ESN. Not the ideal solution but it might be the cheapest option.

100ms ping delay would be enough to cause a crash...you need next to instant feedback.

I linked a cheaper version already. Check the Vtx and Vrx systems available on Hobbyking...
