First Pro micro project. Sega controller adapter

I am using a Sega Genesis 6-button controller with a Pro Micro running (DaemonBite Retro Controllers To USB Adapters) It works great!
The question I have is how would one change the code to add an extra button to a free pin outside of the controller?

EDIT: The controller registers on the PC as a 9-button gamepad. I would like add an extra button to bring it up to 10-button gamepad.

Add some lines of code and maybe delete some lines.
