Fixed voltage regulator

Hello.

I'm working on a project to control a 24v solenoid with arduino. I just want to use one power supply for the project, so i'm looking for a fixed regulator that outputs 3v3. Since i'm going to make my own PCB, i would prefer a single chip only. I have searched everywhere, but i can obly find chips with a maximum input of 12-15 volts.

Any ideas on what i can use?

Look for buck converter. You can buy modules or roll your own.

Thanks. I will have a look

There are plenty of linear regulators that will accept >24V input. But with such a voltage drop it would probably be a good idea to use two separate regulators, the first dropping the voltage to ~12V and the second to 3.3V.

Pololu sells inexpensive and small switching regulators that would be much cooler / more efficient.

The reason the switchmode supply is suggested is that they are a lot more efficient and run cooler. Linear regulators work by dissipating the extra voltage as heat.

LM317 has short circuit and over temp protection for a dollar. It is a linear regulator.
