It is a LIGHT detector. How much light is produced by your stovetop flame?

Real flame detectors work in the ultraviolet region and are triggered by the UV emission from combustion, not by visible light or heat. We called them "purple peepers" in industrial apps like gas burner monitors.

It’s this. https://www.amazon.com/Smartsense-Temperature-Compatible-Atomic-Market/dp/B00TNOHTV2 Not sure what the name is. There’s only one output and it’s digital.
The stove fire generates much more light than the lighter which triggered the flame sensor.
I was wondering whether the flame had a different wavelength light? Could that cause it.
It's basically an IR sensor (so should work when pointed to the sun - which of course is a big ball of fire).
Wondering what kind of stove you have that it produces more light than a cigarette lighter. Mine burns almost invisible, and that's a good thing, as the moment it doesn't my pans get a layer of black soot on the bottom.
