Hi,
Being a new member here I'd like to thank the community for all their hard work and contributions to the forum. Thanks for having me and long live Linux!
I recently bought a Portenta X8 with the Breakout. Although Yocto and Arduino are new to me I'm anxious to dive in and learn.
I will try to keep it short and concise. I will do my best not to digress with too many questions.
I need help understanding my options for OS. What are my options? Can I create my own Yocto image or am I limited to the lmp-manifest images? I see that NXP supports Debian. Is this a moot point with the Portenta?
I'm very confused about how to install recipes that are available at openembedded.org. It seems as though I need a Yocto build environment to have access to the available packages. Am I right in saying that? Do I need to clone lmp-manifest and pump it into Yocto to access available packages?
Maybe I could explain what I'm expecting from this configuration and someone here could determine if it's feasible and how to proceed.
My focus will be on but not limited to mobile applications, as I do intent to explore everything that this board has to offer over time. Debian, Alpine, and Ubuntu are the candidates since the documentation is good.
I will need to configure basic peripherals like a keyboard and a touchscreen etc.. I have a Blackberry style keyboard to play around with. I'm still researching screens at the moment.
I see that many of the packages that I need are already available at openembedded.org, I'm just baffled as to how I would install them.
So is this feasible? And if so, how should I implement it and where should I start? I need a candle. Maybe someone could help me understand how this all works. I have many questions but I will compartmentalize my questions accordingly.
Thanks for reading.
