flex/bend sensor longer than 4.5 inches?

Does anybody know of a manufacturer that makes flex sensors longer than 4.5 inches? I have been searching but am unable to find anything longer than 4.5 inches. 30 to 50 cm would be ideal.

I don't have any experience with softpots, do they also change their output if you bend them?

Or do they need to be sandwiched in some kind of material that will apply pressure to the softpot at the bend site?
