Floppy Disks and Drives as storage: an inquery

Is it possible to use floppy disks and drives as storage? Or am I wasting my time?

If it is possible, can someone direct me to a resource that would show me how to hook it up? I looked on the forums and googled it, and didn't find much help

You are wasting your time ;)

A floppy will use more power and have a tiny fraction of the capacity of an SD card. I can think of no reason to use one, except to prove to yourself that you can.

I recall a post, maybe 2 years ago, where someone was able to control a hard drive. Not sure if it was in this forum or the old forum. This library will get you a lot farther a lot quicker. http://code.google.com/p/sdfatlib/

This is the thread from the old forum, maybe you can still access it. http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=12325.0

Concerning power I still have the power supply from my old desktop computer.

Thanks. I will check it out.

Access to USB drives would be useful for many projects. I bought a USB host controller http://www.circuitsathome.com/mcu/mass-storage-support-for-usb-host-library-2-0-released.

I haven't had time to play with it yet. It is not straight forward and the only software support for USB mass storage is on Mega 2560.

http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=260124.0 he has presumably done this and his code is shown in the stack exchange question. follow the link in the first comment.
