Background....
I'm converting my '01 Ford Excursion interior over to '16 (from carpet up, 10 way heated/cooled seats, dual climate control HVAC, Sync 2 touch screen ((change to Sync 3 later)), Sony sound system w/DSP, etc...).
I have everything working with the '16 cluster except the DS & PS blend doors, the heated/cooled functions on seats...I'm assuming the system has to think a 6.7L engine is running for those to be active.
I'm installing an aftermarket instrument panel swap kit to make a '16 cluster panel function with my '01 panels telemetry.
My question is there a way to build an Arduino to be a like "Gateway" so I can filter the 2016's HS & I CAN signals to the modded '16 cluster. Say like allow DS or PS door ajar signal to go through from '16 BCM but not let any 6.7L engine telemetry or '16 4WD, '16 Tire Pressure or DEF Fluid level through because I don't have any of those things (remember an '01 7.3 diesel Excursion).
Something like the CanHacker CH-P sounds like what I'd need but figured something cheaper may exist or could be made. I'm not sure the CanEdge2 can filter signals like the CanHacker but it looks nice and well laid out for sniffing and breaking down CAN codes. This is what someone wrote about the "CanHacker CH-P" on High Performance Academy:
"The CH-P interface has two galvanic isolated CAN Bus. Best part is, it can be setup as an gateway and act as man i the middle. Means you clip CAN 1 to ECU and CAN 2 to the harness. Then the software you can choise if you want pass trough all can ID or you can turn off each sigle message. On top of that you can send out also single or repeatibg messages on the Bus. There is also a Bomber function which sends messaged on all defined ID and vary bits. Which is great if you have no clue on what ID is for example the Tachometer"
Search on Google. If someone has already done this before you, there is a chance.
Otherwise, collecting information about what CAN message what means can take years even for an experienced master, which, judging by the question, you are not ...
The fastest would be to install a 6.7L engine. Beyond that If you do not have experience in electronics I would get somebody to help as a mistook could destroy some of the factory modules or worse.
