I'm quite new in this forum (but I'm not at all a newbie to forums in general).
So, is there any up-to-date documentation of this forum? E.g. wtf is that „Karma“ stuff about?!

If you get or see a good response to a question, you can give someone a karma point. Those with high karma can be said to have been helpful over the years. Similarly, if provide a good response, someone else can give you some karma.
There's also Read-me first type intros to all the forums which are pretty useful.

The easiest way is to search for documentation is use the box at the top of the page.
As most members are anonymous, you do not know who to believe. Karma and numbers of posts give an indication of what other users think of the help given.
