Free Spin DC Motor and Record Speed

Hi,

I am working on a project in which some external force will rotate the motor and I want to record that speed. What would be the best way to do so?

Thank you and I appreciate your help on this!!

This is the motor and driver I am using:Pololu - 19:1 Metal Gearmotor 37Dx68L mm 12V with 64 CPR Encoder (Helical Pinion), Pololu - TB67H420FTG Dual/Single Motor Driver Carrier
And I am using the Arduino nano ble 33

What's the idea behind this? What's the purpose?
The driver will likely not like the motor running as a dynamo.

Did you notice this in the link you gave? "The gearbox is composed mainly of spur gears, but it features helical gears for the first stage for reduced noise and improved efficiency. "

That is going to be close to impossible to spin the motor using the gearbox output shaft. Have you really tried to spin the motor or is just a "wish"project?

Use a non-geared motor and just record the output voltage, which is directly proportional to the shaft rotational velocity.

Thanks all for replying. I have confirmed with the vendor that this specific motor is not recommended to perform so.
