I just recently ordered a Freeduino serial v2.0, and put it together, devised a method of connecting it to my comp, and now I'm stuck.

I have a WinXP machine with no serial port, but a parallel port. So what I did was get a Parallel to serial adapter(not able to take apart) and a serial cable, so the connection looks like this: (<<indicates female on left and male connector on right)

MoboParallel<<Parallel-Serialadaptor<>FreeduinoSerialV2.0

The Freeduino has the Power LED steady on, and the other LED blinking every second.

I've downloaded the main software, but I can't get the comp to recognize the board through parallel. I don't even know if it's been attempted, but I thought you guys would know more about it then me.

Hi Doug, I am curious how a parallel to serial adapter would work with anything other than a serial printer. Do you have link for info in the device you have?

The common solution to a lack of serial ports is to use a USB to serial adapter.

I followed your advice and went with the SOP of gettng a usb serial. Thanks!
