I'm using a Mega for my home made 3D printer, and long story short, a part fell, pulled a wire, moved a heatsink, and shorted some pins on a A4988 stepper driver. Cue curls of smoke, the smell of burning plastic, and a dead printer.
The board and LCD still power up and run through their menus and stuff, but calling on the stepper motors to move kills the board. It seems as if it was running only off the USB power.
I replaced the 7805 regulator but the board isn't powering up through the power jack with a 9V battery. I The new 7805 is giving me 4.96V at the output on a breadboard, but nothing at the output when it's soldered to the mega board. Pins 1 and 2 for the 7805 on the board have continuity; should this be the case? I fear not. The green LED lights up when connected via USB but it doesn't via the 9V Battery.
Perhaps more mortally, my computer doesn't recognize the board at all. No beeps when i plug it in, the "L, Tx, and Rx" lights are all dead too. I'm okay on the software end on the computer because I've been uploading sketches & running prints via the usb cable for weeks.
It seems strange that the L light doesn't blink but the LCD screen attached goes through it's menus and stuff? or are all those menus stored in the RAMPS shield / screen and don't need the mega to run?
I'm okay on the mechanical side of things and know a tiny bit about the hardware...and nothing about the software! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Is my board scrap?
