FTDI driver issues w/ new Arduino (Mac OS X 10.5)

Hi, all -

I'm brand new to Arduino, and very excited about getting up and running. However, I've hit a snag, and can't seem to figure my way out of it.

I have a new Arduino Diecimila that I purchased assembled from SparkFun. I downloaded the Arduino IDE (v12) from this site, and installed it. I ran the driver installation program (version FTDIUSBSerialDriver_v2_2_9_Intel), let it restart, and loaded up the IDE. However, the Arduino is not showing up in the serial port list.

Being the dutiful troubleshooter that I am, I looked at the site and discovered the thread from gck about installing the Mac drivers (I can't post the link here since this is my first post, and the system won't allow it).

I un-installed as per gck's instructions, and still nothing. Then I read further down the thread, and remembered that I, too, had a PL2303 driver installed to use the Scratch Board (from MIT's Scratch project). I ran through those steps, too, to uninstall the PL2303 driver, then went through gck's steps again.

When I plug in the Arduino, I see it power up, but it's still not showing up in the list of serial ports.

System details:

Mac OS X 10.5.4
Arduino Diecimila
Arduino IDE version 0012

Looking in /System/Library/Extensions, I see the following entry:

drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Jan 8 2008 FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Bill

Here's the post I was referring to above:

(wow, I'm starting to feel like I'm talking to myself here...)

I found the culprit: a bad USB cable. Always the simple things, isn't it?

My Arduino is happily blinking away now, running the Blink program.

Bill, you ARE talking to yourself but that's not always a bad thing if you can answer your own questions. Thanks for posting your solution, many people will never let us know they got something fixed or will just say "fixed it" and that helps no one. Again, thanks and welcome aboard.
