ok after getting one bad DOA FTDI to serial adapter i went and bought 2 more
i had both of them working on my win 8.1 machine a few weeks ago
i returned one and kept one , now
today i went to plug it in and upload a sketch to a new pro mini i just got
but arduino IDE gave an error about the com port during upload, so i went into the device manager and noticed that
there is no com port tab even showing up now and that there is a driver conflict exclamation pennant in device manager next to universal serial bus controllers > USB serial converter
why is windows such a ball busting POS of an OS all the time
i unplugged this thing and plugged it back in many times a few weeks ago and it worked every single time
i deleted the driver and had windows reinstall it and still no com port tab shows in device manager and it still won't work now
i tried to got o update driver and it says it is up to day i tried to uninstall the device and have windows detect it and reinstall the drivers and still does not work no com port will show up now
ok i just figured someone here would know ,i just plugged it into my win 7 32bit machine and it works on that machine
i didn't do anything to my win 8.1 machine i didn't install any new hardware or mess with any drivers at all
i find it really strange that it detected it and it worked a few weeks ago and after reboots and unplugging it and plugging it back in it still was working fine now it just all of a sudden does not work , it's really weird
also i can find instruction for win 10 and win 7 but not for win 8/8.1
i would really just like to know how i can get the PC to make it like it was never connected
i just want to know exactly what drivers and devices i need to delete to make it like a fresh start so windows will detect it and automatically install the drivers again
So many problems are fixed by that simple measure it is certainly worth a go.
Unplug any other items before disabling it and restart the computer with D.S. off.
Then add items back in one by one but wait until each item has acquired its drivers properly before connecting anything else. I trust you understand how to ACCEPT a driver if it is offered ?
May also be worth doing all that as a FULL ADMINISTRATOR.
There are two levels of admin BTW and I prefer FULL admin not just a user with some admin rights.
I haven't looked at the pics links as you can post pictures in here so people don't have to wander the internet looking for them.
