FTDI USB Serial Driver failure on a Mac running moutain lion

I have just started working with Adruino. I successfully installed the Adruino dev tool, updated my java, reset my software permission to allow the FTDI usb serial driver, successfully installed the driver, restarted, tested several examples and went to bed.

I started coding up a new project and my Adruino environment informed ‘processing.app.SerialNotFoundException: Serial port ‘/dev/tty.usbmodemfa131’ not found. Did you select the right one from the Tools > Serial Port menu?’ When I checked the menu tty.usbmodemfa131 was no longer there.

The Adruino debug makes me think that the JavaVM is working. Has anyone else experienced this problem. Is there another driver alternative that might be more stable?

Try restarting your Mac.

I have restarted several times. No change in the port availability.

Did you get new FTDI drivers from the FTDI site? When I upgraded to Lion the old driver stopped working.

Yes, I took them from the FTDI site, but I am using mountain lion so that may be the issue.

The tip from Johnwasser worked for me some weeks ago.Install the new driver

Have you tried using a different USB port? Also, use a port on the CPU itself, not a keyboard USB port. You may also want to reset the PRAM, as it stores the serial configuration. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

I am running Mountain Lion, so I know that it's compatible.

My project for today is to uninstall and then reinstall the FTDI drivers on my Mac. Then I will reset my Mac's PRAM and NVRAM. Last night I did a diagnostic on the JVM which checked out 100%. I want to thank everyone for the results and I will post the outcome. XD

P.S. Does anyone know of any programme that lets you view and modify the PRAM and NVRAM values manually?

I wanted to thank everyone for all of the help. I am back to blinking and such again :)

Just as a FYI it was also a big help to http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/AppNotes/AN_134_FTDI_Drivers_Installation_Guide_for_MAC_OSX.pdf and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

I am closing this thread, but I really appreciated the newbie help.
