Garage door

Hi,

Never used an arduino before but im sure its the tool for my project. Just want to clarify here.

I have an electric garage door. I want to make it so that it wont open or close if there is something in its path by using light sensors perhaps.

I would also like the arduino to close the garage door after 10 minutes if the light sensors have not been broken. This is to prevent garage door being accidentally left open overnight for example.

Additionally i would like the arduino to turn on lights on the driveway when garage door is opened. The lights will then go off after 5 minutes.

Can the arduino be fed the signals from the light sensor to control the electric garage door?

I apologise if questions are simple, new to all this.

Modern garage door openers have obstacle detection capability built in, so I'm surprised yours doesn't.

Have you looked up the make and model to see if sensors aren't already available for it? It may be as simple as just installing and plugging them in.

In addition to the optical sensors, many door openers monitor the open/close switch: if you push the switch while the door is moving, it stops immediately.
