General Question - Is the arduino fast enough for the internet?

Hi,

I need to decide if I use an arduino or a raspberry pi (2).
I am planing a gpslogger that is supposed to upload directly to a cloud or ftp or whatever … This would mean that it needs an internet connection through gsm. In an optimal case, I would even upload the data in an encrypted way.

Is the arduino fast enough for this? Is it capable of uploading stuff with the gsm shield?

Use a RPi. The Arduino ethernet library doesn’t support any secure protocols.

You can use an Arduino with a library for encryption, connect to ftp servers, use a GSM shield and so on.
But I agree with SurferTim, if you have not started with this project yet, use a Raspberry Pi.

Adafruit is making HATs (add-on boards for the Raspberry Pi).
