Welcome to the forum.
When you upload the sketch wait till the white dots start appearing then double press the reset button on you're board.(May need to reload the firmware. I have had the same issue many times.)

how do you reload the firmware?
I went to Tools>Firmware Updater but it says that no supported board is connected
Is it not working because I didn't select a board AND a port? How do I select a port?
By all means make sure the right board and port are selected.
It says that there are no ports discovered when i try to select a board and a port, even with the "show all ports" option clicked
In that case you have to check Windows device manager. The IDE only knows what the operating system knows.
Make sure that your cable is a data/sync cable and not a charge-only cable.
I'm not familiar with your board so can't help you further.
