Getting hold of rotary mirrors like the ones used in laser scanners

I'm looking to get hold of polygonal mirrors and stepper like they use in laser scanners (like at a checkout) but can't find a source of them, aside from buying new parts with the full board at extortionate prices.

I've cross-posted to the device hacking subforum so if folks could reply there that'll keep things tidy. I figured I'd drop a thread here for visibility, as it's not something I suspect a lot of people have access to.

Surplus electronics sources might be a possibility - check "All Electronics" and "Electronic Goldmine" - but if you are looking for a consistent source of new mirror assemblies, you likely aren't going to find it. Manufacturers of these devices typically go to other vendors and manufacturers and order batches (of several 1000's or larger) of parts from a standard catalog, or maybe even custom made. Even if you found one of those manufacturers, they likely won't see you anything from their standard catalog for under 1000 pieces (and maybe not even then). The only other possibility (though you again will pay insane prices) would be to look at Edmunds Optical products (and/or other similar places) to see if they sell such mirrors.
