I've been trying for two days solid to get this Mega 2560 board i got from China to load the basic blink program. It will not do it. It checks the sketch and then just sits there with the orange led blinking (real high frequency)and on sometimes i can get the RX red led to blink at me every 15-20 seconds. Have read and study-ed the install on Arduino site and read a book, as well as the trouble-shot page and did all i know to get this board up and loading sketches........to no completion.
I'm using Windows-XP-sp-3 and have ran the verbose key on an upload and received this:
avrdude: usbdev_open(): did not find any USB device "usb"
Yes, i read that myself, but, still can't get it to do any better. When i delete it in the "com ports" in the defice panel and plug board in, it starts the "found new device" and i've tryed every driver that came with the Arduino program. Now i'm at a loss.
My big computer is down waiting on a new processor, and i'm using this old laptop with XP loaded on it. It has the old usb 1.1 i think and not the newer 2.1 usb ports, is all that i can think may be causing problems.
I also checked to see if a boot-loader was present by pressing the reset switch. The orange led flashes 2 times. So it has a boot-loader on it, i'm wondering if it has the right on on it? Is it possible for them to have put the wrong boot-loader on the board???
When it "finds new Hardware" on loading drivers i allow it to fail and close it out, then i go to the control panel and find the port it's using under "ports and coms" and use update driver to point to the drivers files. Like i said, i've tryed every one at least twice. Still want work!! Help !!!!
Any one with any ideas will be of huge help.......Thanks Rick.
P.S. Have order a AVR-ISP i think it is called, programmer to have if i need it to re-burn my boot-loader file back on it. (them China people may have the wrong boot-loader loaded on it, is all i can think. It comes up "Uno Arduino" on the found new hardware. The board is "Mega 2560") Will have to learn how to use it. Hope "adfruit.com" where i ordered it will include full instructions on it's use.
