Getting started with Arduino - fan exercise

I'm trying to do the fan exercise on "Getting started with Arduino" book.
The point is to control a fan, here are the two pictures for the circuit (click for fullsize):

I'm trying to figure out a few things:

  1. My Arduino does not have a 9v pin. Should I connect to the 5v one or to a 9v battery(and how)?
  2. In a MOSPEC (this one in specific) to what pin do I solder the red and the black wire?

Connect it to the 9V battery, the negative side of the battery should go to the arduino ground and the positive side to one side of the motor, According to the schematic the other side of the motor you connect to the drain pin.
The source pin goes to the arduino ground and the gate pin goes to arduino pin 9(or other PWM pin).
