Getting started with Arduino

I have like 300$ and I was going to get Arduino. I've been looking at it for quite some time, always amazed with everything that you could make for it. I've been learning electronics at school, so I know the basics. So, my question is, if I have 300$ what should I get?

Ive been looking at the Arduino experimentation kit from Robotshop.ca and I was going to get both IR sensors (there's a choice of 2 that you can get with the kit, ones range is 10-80 cm and the other is 20-120 cm)

Thats just over 100$ with shipping and handling, what other things would you suggest? (preferably from the same site, but that doesn't matter that much.)

This is the kit I was thinking of:

Hey are you interested in making a robot? If you are, here are a few great sites with arduino goodies;
http://www.solarbotics.com/freeduino_arduino/microcontroller_boards/
Solarbotics has a few great gear motors and accesories like wheels and treads. It has a few servos and many Arduino boards.

Robot Shop you already know.

For all your servo and mounting bracket needs

Plenty of arduino boards, sensors, and breakoutboards! In fact, check out their main page for info about free day that happens tomorrow the 7th!!!
Hope that gives you a few ideas. Its a bit easier if you have a specific project in mind :wink:

Well I'm probably just going to make some basic projects to get the hang of it but in the long run I wanna make a robot that can drive around without crashing into anything, and maybe then upgrade it to follow a path. And shields were really cool, i was probably going to make a few of those.
