Getting Started With HM-TRP (915MHz) & UNO/Nano & Linux

Piles of UNOs & Nanos
Hope HM-TRP (2) @915MHz

Experts,

Since I got these a week ago, I can't find anywhere a way to get off the ground and just start talking/configuring them. I can power it up, see the LEDs blink, and that is it.

-I see in some cases the UNO pins 0 & 1 are used to the DTX/DRX on the module (isn't that the only UART on the UNO?)
-I see others able to use SetSerial to use alternate pins.
-I have a USB-232 module (FTDI232), but is that needed to configure it?
-I see a PC application can be downloaded & run, but I'm linux on desktops & dev laptop. Is there no way to use the commands in the manual, or others, on linux?
-The examples in the airspayce library (HopeRF: HopeRF Radio Transceiver Message Library for Arduino) are for a Mega, which has 4 UARTS...

I'm glad to make a video how-to on how to do this from scratch... ...as soon as I can do it!

My target first project for these is a stand-alone remote weather sensor, which will be solar charged, which is why the low power draw is so enticing.

Have you manage to make a video or get started with this module? I was expecting an RF96 ic on the module but it is an Si1000 from silicon labs and like you I'm not sure were to start using it with an Arduino?

Any help would be appreciated.
