GIGA USB virtual serial port characteristics

I'd like to better understand the actual connectivity behavior when using the GIGA's standard USB-C port to connect to a USB-C port on a PC or Mac.

I'm very familiar with connecting actual serial ports together from the old'n days. But how much of that is still actually relevant when two USB ports are directly connected?

Does the bit rate value actually matter in any way or do the ports just communicate at the full USB handshake speed anyway?

Is flow control inherently provided or is setting up the flow control pins required?

I can see the DTR and RTS "pins" do provide the relevant connection status.

Are the bit rate and flow control settings even relevant when communicating USB to USB without actual serial comm pins in-between?

No. Both are taken care by USB.
You still has to put something on your code though: Serial.begin(somebaudrate);
