Giving error avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00

i have made a ARDUINO SEVERINO SERIAL SINGLE SIDED BOARD VERSION 3. i have used atmega8. when i upload a sketch it shows an error "avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00". how to get rid of this??? i have used 2 transistors to make TTL interface.

sure...

  1. if the board is self made then first check your hardware and each components. specially zener,transistors and crystal.
  2. you put the right bootloader into the controller.

i have used USBasp(selfmade)for bootloading and used ATmega8L microcontroller and it works fine.
though i have checked using 2 transistor TTL circuit and with MAX232. here is my prototype.
