What's the best website to buy a motor to build a segway style device? The motor needs to go back and forth. I was hoping to get a powerful motor because I am quite heavy.

Ok, sorry. Fixed my profile. I live in Canada, but I live right near the border and have a friend in the USA who I can pick it up from.

Check out Elektor.com magazine, they had an article in July 09 I think, called the Wheelie, on building your own Segway typed device.
Old issues are available for free from Pololu.com if they have any left, and articles are also available online.
Or maybe at your local library?

The electronics behind a rather special kind of vehicle

"In this first article describing our DIY self-balancing single-axle vehicle we look at the electronics modules.
An ATmega32 processes the controls and sensor data and drives the two electric motors via power driver stages.
It keeps the vehicle balanced and can drive it in any desired direction at any desired speed from stationary to about 11 mph."
Two possible alternative sources are , electric bicycle suppliers and electric scooter suppliers. Bicycle motors are usually of "pancake" style and run relatively slowly. Scooter motors run quite fast, typically 2000-3000rpm so will require gearing. I've used several of these rated at 600watts each to build a 7.25" electric loco.
