I've been burned by that too.
If you create a long post, be sure to use CTRL-A (highlight all) and CTRL-C (copy to paste buffer) before posting so all the work is not done.
Or type it up in an external editor, then copy/paste it in.
Often, when that happens, you can press the back button on the browser and your post has not been lost - you can hit post again. But not always.

Indeed, I avoid using my laptop in the shower for that very reason.
I blame Windows myself.
Look and see if you have any auto saved versions. Go to your profile page and click on show drafts.
