GPIO input architecture of ESP8266MOD

Hello everyone,

Concerning ESP8266, i would like to understand what the architecture of GPIO input stage (clamping diode, resistances, mosfet....) is and i never get specs about that. Would someone have information ?

I haven't seen the same degree of detail for the espressif parts as is par for the course for western manufacturers. Then again, the western manufacturers wont sell you a wifi-enabled microcontroller mounted on a module for less than the cost of a cup of coffee...

You can determine if there's a clamping diode with a resistor, dmm, and 5v power supply though...

Here is an analysis of the GPIO protection circuit: Is ESP8266 I/O really 5V tolerant? - Digital Me

Thanks for this link. I have been chip designer. Like the author, i am convinced that 5 volts on GPIO pins will not destroy a ESP8266 and I don't understand why Espressif does not write ESP8266 is 5 volts tolerent.
