GPRS/GPS module for Arduino

Hi,

I am planning to purchase the GPRS/GPS module for Arduino (http://www.libelium.com/tienda/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=42) but have a couple of questions I would be grateful if you could help me with:

  1. Do I need to buy a GPRS antenna as well as a GPS antenna?

  2. Will I be able to run this module with my Arduino board off a battery? If so, what type of battery?

Thanks in advance.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

I can't speak to the battery issue, but it looks like it does not have a built in antenna for either the GPSR or GPRS. GPS modules sometimes have a built in patch antenna, but nothing I can find on this one suggests it does. You should expect to need an external amplified GPS antenna and also an external antenna for the mobile phone side.

Quite a complex little module! Uploadable python programs, AT command controllable cell modem, GPSR, etc. Looks like it can find it's location from either the GPS functionality or by triangulating on cell towers.

Thanks a lot walterr. I thought I needed an antenna for each but just wanted to make sure. Thanks again.

This may be of interest to you. A single antenna that covers GPS, GPRS, and WiFi:

I like very much working in this field, do you recommend me to by the gprs/gps module for arduino, have you done any thing?? Thank you

I haven't done anything yet as I haven't bought the antennas so I'm not in a position to recommend it. I will let you know when I have tried it out!
