Hello guys i have configured this GPS module GPS module VK2828U7G5LF and i was wondering is it possible to lose the configuration settings i have done if left unpowered for a long time ?
What does the manual say?
I didn't manage to find something relevant to what I asked in the manual. If you don't mind could you please take a look at the Manual as well.
The manual says there's a specific command to save configuration changes. It doesn't say how long they are stored but I would expect to get the same data back 50 years from now. There's no battery, so the storage is most likely Flash memory.
Sorry for asking MorganS but by saying Flash memory what do you mean exactly? That whatever is saved will remain there ?
Yes, for some period of years. Flash with a capital-F is a type of memory. It's the same stuff used in SD cards and USB memory sticks.
Thank you very much for for the useful info you just shared with us MorganS didn't know that. It's really nice to learn even one thing each day thanks again.
It's more likely EEPROM.
If it is so aarg from what I've read up to know it has to be saved only once and that's it if you don't erase or change it, it will always be there
Yes, EEPROM will store data for about the same time as Flash. Practically "forever" for most purposes.
Generally is there any king of GPS module that may lose the configuration settings after a short period of time ?
Any one which relies on a coin cell battery to keep the memory and that battery has gone flat. Lots of GPSs do this. Often they are built into other equipment as an OEM module and the users aren't even aware there is a battery.
The reason why even relatively recent GPS modules use batteries is they need a battery to keep their RTC ticking, so there was no reason to use Flash or EEPROM.
