Hello..
Practicing with an Arduino MEGA 2560, I would like to know what can I do (or not), with an USB GPS I have at home.
USB GPS receiver Model:XC-GD75 with SiRF III chipset
Specifications are here

I bought it a few years ago to play with maps/charts and works OK.
It uses Prolific USB to SERIAL drivers .
Now, I have read all I can from this forum tryng to do something with the informations coming from the GPS,
I have read almost everything about TinyGPS, Parsing data, etc, but nothing that answer the main question....
¿Is it possible to re-direct (¿parsing?) data from GPS unit (connected to serial #5 in my case) to Arduino?...
I read that using a GPS shield I can do something but, before I buy the shield I want to make sure if this unit (external USB GPS), can be handled with the shield.
Well...
I have to say that I have some dificulties with english (and just a beginner in software)...
Thanks in advance...
If you are lucky the GPS uses a TTLSerial-to-USB chip for the USB interface. Then you might be able to tap into those serial connections. The alternative would be something like a USB Host Shield but I don't know if anyone has written the drivers to allow an Arduino to connect to a USB Serial chip.
