Grayed out Tools > Serial Port on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

I have an Arduino UNO for class and a laptop that runs Ubuntu 14.04. When I connect the UNO it turns on and the L light begins to blink but in the IDE I cannot select a serial port. Obviously, this prevents me from from uploading code to the board.

Can anyone help?

You need to be a member of the dialout group to access the /dev/ttyACM? ports.
