Hi @terrydavey. Which version of Arduino IDE are you using (e.g., "2.0.1")? The version is shown on the window title bar and also in the **Help \> About** dialog.

I ask for this information because I want to give you the appropriate instructions for the IDE version you are using.

Please try carefully and exactly following the instructions here:

[https://github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki/Compiling-Grbl#if-you-are-using-arduino-ide-2x](https://github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki/Compiling-Grbl#if-you-are-using-arduino-ide-2x)

If you have any questions or problems while following those instructions, let me know and I'll help you out.

That is expected. Now you must perform step (6) of the instructions I linked to in my previous reply. In case that step is not very clear, I'll write it in a more detailed manner:

1. Start Arduino IDE if it is not already running.
2. Select **File \> Preferences...** from the Arduino IDE menus.
The " **Preferences**" dialog will open.
3. Take note of the path shown in the " **Sketchbook Location**" field of the " **Preferences**" dialog.
4. Click the " **CANCEL**" button in the " **Preferences**" dialog.
5. Start [Windows " **File Explorer**"](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/find-and-open-file-explorer-ef370130-1cca-9dc5-e0df-2f7416fe1cb1).
6. Navigate to the folder at this path in **File Explorer** :

```plaintext
C:\users\terry\Downloads\grbl-master\
```

7. Click the left mouse button on the `grbl` subfolder you see there. Hold down the mouse button.
8. While continuing to hold down the left mouse button, drag the folder until it is hovering over the folder at the following path:

````plaintext
<Sketchbook location>\libraries\
```text
(where `<Sketchbook location>` is the path you noted from the " **Sketchbook location**" preference in Arduino IDE)

````
9. Release the left mouse button.
10. Carefully examine the folder structure under the "Sketchbook location' path in **File Explorer**. The folder should have the following structure:
```plaintext
<Sketchbook location>/
├── libraries/
│ └── grbl/
│ ├── examples/
│ │ └── ...
│ ├── grbl.h
│ └── ...
└── ...

```
