Ground connection issues servo

Hello together,

I have an issue with following test setup. Maybe one of you have an advice.

Following setup:

  • ESP8226 dev board supplied by laptop USB port
  • Servo MG995 supplied by external supply

Without ground connection between those 2 supplies servo is somehow reacting.

If I conenct ground from external supply and USB supply then servo does not turn.

How can you explain this?

Please post your sketch, using code tags when you do, and a schematic of your project. A photo of a hand drawn circuit is good enough
