GSM shield not working with Arduino Mega ADK

Good morning,

I'm working with an Arduino Mega ADK and Arduino's GSM Shield. I followed the instructions for jumpering the pin 2 across to pin 10 for interrupts on the Mega. However, I cannot get Arduino's "TestModem" sketch to identify a modem. The instruction says no SIM card required, is this wrong? I have the On LED lit, the Status LED lit, and the Net LED is flashing. Nothing else is plugged into any port on the Arduino right now except the GSM shield. Power is being supplied from the USB on my laptop. I tried the shield with an UNO, and it the "TestModem" sketch works just fine. I have attempted using a higher power supply (12V) with the Mega ADK and GSM Shield but it has not helped. I have changed the pins in the GSM3SoftSerial.cpp file according to instructions on both the website and tech support from Robotshop.com (the company I purchased the shield from). As of this morning, their tech support said they cannot help me with my problems. There seems to be no explanation for why the GSM shield will not work with the Mega ADK. Has anyone seen this problem? I have not been able to find anyone else posting about this basic issue with the shield, which leads me to believe there may be something wrong with the either the Mega ADK or the GSM Shield. Thanks in advance for the help.
